Timing = Everything

A new, catchy, innovative campaign just came out for Greyhound that is now being stopped in it's tracks. The slogan of the ads is "There's a reason you've never heard of 'bus rage". Smart, right?

Unfortunately, it's all gone to waste because A MAN ATE ANOTHER PASSENGER ON A GREYHOUND LAST WEEK. Whoa. Just goes to show that sometimes our best efforts can be stopped by an unpredictable force.

I am Rich

This is the title of a new iPhone app that is selling for $999.99 in the app store. Seriously. $1000 for an application. What does it do? Cure cancer? Feed the poor? Nope. Here you go:

"When run "I Am Rich" simply displays a red gem and accompanying glow, letting the world know that the owner has more money than sense - though some would argue that ownership of an iPhone already denotes that to some degree."

"Yes!"

A new book, "Yes!", has just published some fascinating information on how to get a "yes" out of people. For starters, people are more easily convinced when they are under the influence of caffeine. Another tidbit: a restaurant manager went from 30% of no-show reservation holders not calling to 10%. How? By changing the phrasing from "please call in advance if you can't make it" to "will you please call in advance if you can't make it?"

A trick we use in mock trial is to get the person saying "yes" to a series of question, which often leads to a slip-up "yes" later down the line (this tip is also mentioned in How To Win Friends and Influence People). This book could have important information for future PR efforts.

Paris is viral

After John McCain released an ad comparing Obama to Paris Hilton, Paris came back with an ad of her own, challenging both McCain and Obama.

The video has over 2.5 million views in less than 24 hours. Pretty impressive. Probably the biggest viral hit since Weezer's Pork & Beans video.

The Hilton ad is featured exclusively over at Will Ferrell's website: funnyordie.com. It will most likely be the biggest hit the website has seen since his hilarious video "The Landlord."

Hate it or love it: Favre is dominating the media

Favre this, Favre that. He is everywhere. Do people still love him? Not exactly sure. Most Packer fans are probably rightfully torn.

"We made our peace last year, he can't play forever, let's move on."

I know that people typically hate when bands/musicians call a tour their farewell tour or last tour ever, but then end up touring five more times (i.e. cher).

As a Vikings fan, I wouldn't mind him playing for us for a year, but that seems to be a long shot. What is your take?

Campaign of the Week

My favorite marketing campaign of the last month has to be Converses "Drive-thru" campaign. They offer a free song, and a good one too, by three unique artists: NERD, Santogold, and Julian Casablancas. This campaign is in celebration of Converses 100 year anniversary.

While the buzz has been good surrounding this campaign, people often overlook what actually counts: increased sales. We will see if the buzz pays off....
